Wishful Thinking

I love snow. Really, I do. If it has to be winter, I'd rather the season be filled with fluffy white snow than day after endless day of gray bleakness. So I'm really okay that we had snow again here in Nashville last night.

However.

I'm not going to lie.

Today I'm really wishing for this:

Or this:

Or, really, I'm not picky. I'd settle for this:

I just need a little summer injected into my snow days.

Fancy Meeting You Here

Whoops, I forgot to blog for most of June. But hey, here I am again! Back in action! And Blogger added a bunch of new templates and backgrounds so I switched that, yet again. I really liked the look of the other one but it was a little busy for my tastes and also I couldn't access the dashboard very easily which means jibber jabber to you but it was bugging me. So, hello new yellow swirlies!

I do want to take a poll as to whether you find it difficult to read with the transparent background. So please let me know and if so I will try something else!

This past weekend we went to Tucson, so we could be incredibly hot. Just kidding, we went for a wedding. The being hot part was just a little bonus. It hit 105 every day we were there, including the day we went to the wedding. Did I mention it was outside?

Jokes aside, the wedding was for our very good friend Rob. Rob is someone Ben and I have been friends with since high school. Actually, Ben and Rob went to the same preschool, though they don't remember each other from that far back. He is one of Ben's original guitar buddies and just an all-around wonderful guy. Some of my best, funniest memories involve Rob. He was a groomsman at Ben's & my wedding, and we also performed "our" song at my reception - that would be the Elephant Love Medley from Moulin Rouge - which is somewhere captured on video but maybe it is best that the moment live on only in our hearts.

We also love Rob's family. We spent many a night in high school and on trips home in college hanging out in the Nation Family basement with his brothers and being doted on by his momma. If I am ever the mother of three boys, I can only pray they all turn out as impressively as Louise's did.

We got to make the trip with another couple from high school, Cara and Cody, who are still our dear friends. It was fun to take a mini-vacation together and live it up at a gorgeous desert resort. There were several amazing pools where we spent most of our days. Ben and Cody went down the water slide approximately 500 times. We all got a little sunburned. It was awesome.

Rob married a lovely woman named Laura who were were excited to finally meet this weekend. The wedding was wonderful, everyone looked beautiful, and by the time the ceremony got into gear the sun was setting and the heat was mercifully dissipating. Their ceremony was really God-honoring and brought to the front and center Rob & Laura's faith and love for Jesus. All in all a totally great weekend and I am so excited for my old friend Rob and my new friend Laura and the beginning of their shared life.

Pretty Good Day

Today, was a good day.

I baked brownies. With extra chocolate chips just because. And I displayed them on my new pink plaid platter from the Target clearance aisle.

I wore my favorite summer dress, which is long and beachy and made of the softest grey t-shirt material.

I listened to my Smalltown Poets cd, sang along with "Prophet, Priest & King" and remembered how much I love their music.

I went to our work pool party and laid in the sun and went swimming with my friends. And get this - Ben took the afternoon off and came to the party too!

We went and saw WALL-E. I am now in love with that movie. I cried at their adorable robot love.

I came home all tired and with sunkissed shoulders and as I was taking a shower I realized it was only Friday and the whole weekend was still before me.

Then I typed this blog.

And now I am going to go downstairs, get a glass of milk, and curl up next to Ben on the couch. I am going to thank God that he is not at Bonnaroo or working at his boss's house til 4 am, or any other place than here with me. And I am going to read my book of Ray Bradbury short stories until we get tired and go to bed.

And that, my friends, is a pretty great day.

That's Hot

Okay, there is hot, and there is HOT. Today, my friends, was the latter. We are talking 103 degrees. Today was the kind of hot where even inside where your AC is blasting you can't get comfortable. Pretty much the only acceptable activity is laying on your floor watching TV in just a t-shirt and your underwear with nothing else touching you. Trust me, the floor is best. It is maybe 1 degree cooler down there than on the couch. Don't even think about going upstairs.

Other thing to do on such a hot day:
1. Nothing
2. Sip an ice cold drink
3. Eat a popsicle
4. Lay with a fan blowing directly in your face
5. Watch movies where it is snowing

Other things NOT to do on such a hot day:
1. Move
2. Wear more than two articles of clothing. You can pick which two are appropriate for wherever you are.
3. Go outside
4. Clean or any other indoor activity that would cause you to sweat, ie walking from room to room
5. Blow dry your hair

Wherever you are, I hope you are staying cool. Now if you'll excuse me, I need to move away from this computer which is emitting unnecessary heat in my general direction. Back to the floor!

You know what I love? When you go swimming, and you get water in your ears, and you can hear it in there for hours, making a sort of crunchy shifting sound, and then you come home and lay down and all the sudden the water frees itself from your eardrum and the little droplet that trickles out of your ear is all hot from being inside your head.* And you are like, "Ah, I can hear again!" There is something really satisfying about that warm little bit of water coming out of your ear, like when you pop your finger really loudly or successfully scratch an itchy spot on your back or lay down after a long day and feel your spine stretching and relaxing.

*Footnote: Today I went swimming at our office pool party and this happened and it was like every day of my childhood summers all over again.
