It's Almost Time.

Six years of amazing television all comes to an end this Sunday night when LOST airs its series finale. I cannot wait! This is a fan-made trailer but it is somehow more awesome than all the promos ABC managed to put together.

I Should Probably Start Packing.

Just kidding, I've started. I mean, nothing is actually in a bag yet, but, you know, I thought about it. We've got a good 15 hours before we leave for the airport, and who would I be if I wasn't a raging procrastinator? So we'll get it together here soon.

Tomorrow I'll be on a plane to Los Angeles, and tomorrow night we'll be on the plane to Auckland. Toss in a little time travel and we'll be landing down in New Zealand on Tuesday morning. I am excited but at the same time I have that strange surreal feeling I get before any big trip or event, where it just won't seem like it is actually happening until we get on that plane! I am praying for safe travel and that this trip is just really awesome for Ben. He's worked so hard over the past year and so REALLY hard over the past few months that I just can't wait to unleash him on NZ and see him enjoying life.

Just pretend this is me and Ben.

We are going to be gone for two weeks (or as I like to count it, two episodes of LOST) and we'll be a bit off the radar in lots of the places we're headed. We will be trying to snag internet from time to time and hope to post some pics and updates from the road.

What do you mean they're missing two weeks of our show?! Don't they know this is the final season?!

Well let's be honest, those bags aren't going to pack themselves. I've done my stalling, and I'm getting on that plane tomorrow whether I'm ready or not. But since I'd prefer to have clean underwear and my glasses (what else does a girl need?) I'm off for now... see ya in a couple weeks kiddos!

How I Spent My Long Sick Weekend

For the past four and a half days, I have been sick. This is pretty rare for me so it has really sucked. And to make matters worse, until yesterday afternoon, Ben was still gone in Japan so I was all alone. Just me and Scruffy in my Den of Germs (aka my house). My time sneezing, coughing, and running a fever can be summarized with the following four actions:

Watching Lost. I had decided I wanted to start rewatching the older seasons of Lost. And you know what works great for that? Days of uninterrupted time in which you want to do nothing more physically taxing than sitting on your couch within arm's length of a Kleenex box. I watched Season 2. And Season 3. And I'm starting Season 4 right now. What a way to spend four days. And as an added bonus, it's helping me remember some important connections for this season. SOMETHING TO NEVER FORGET: Benjamin Linus is a lying liar who lies.

Eating Baja Burrito. I don't know why, but the only thing that sounded good to me for the first part of being sick was Baja Burrito. It isn't even my favorite burrito place, but I NEEDED it. I went there three times, and each time I saved half my burrito and ate it for a later meal. You do the math.
Taking my temperature. I have always had this fascination with taking my temperature, but I hardly EVER run a fever. So imagine my twisted delight when on Thursday night I busted out the little digital thermometer and it read me at a toasty 102. Woo!
Sleeping. I didn't ever get a full night's sleep, mind you, too much coughing for that. But nevertheless, I spent at least 78% of the past four days either asleep on the couch, asleep in my bed, or at the very least snuggled beneath a large fluffy blanket. Nothing wrong with that.

I'd like to give some sick props to Jon & Heather, who answered the call when I was about to go insane from being in my house too long. They took me out to dinner and didn't mind when I asked to go to Target so I could get a new trash can. They didn't even laugh at me too much when I was walking around the store in a sort of craze/daze, fanning myself and wondering why it was so freaking hot. (Hint: it was the fever.)

Finally, I have to add a small note about Ben. He came home on Saturday afternoon to a fussy wife who couldn't even give him a proper welcome home kiss for fear of spreading the sickness around, but he has been nothing short of wonderful. It's so very nice to have someone to look after you when you're sick and tired and tired of being sick. He got me medicine, and rubbed my back, and tucked the covers in at the bottom of the bed where I'd kicked them out in a fevered fit. He loves me very much, and I am so happy he's home.

Monday Nights Just Got Crazy

I know I blogged before about how we had to choose between Chuck & Gossip Girl, both airing at 7pm on Monday nights. And because apparently there is literally no other time slot available on any day of the week, FOX has now moved my Tuesday night show, House, to - you guessed it - Monday nights. At 7pm.

First of all, I don't know how they're going to get away with airing that show so early in prime-time. Seven o'clock is like, families-gathering-'round-the-dinner-table TV, not House-almost-overdoses-on-vicodin-and-is-discovered-by-a-hooker-before-solving-a-case-in-which-he-nearly-kills-a-patient-who-vomits-blood-everywhere TV. It's a pretty intense show!

Second of all, why do all these shows have to be on at the same time? I mean, true, I would guess the average adult is not likely to be interested in both a serious medical drama, a geek-spy comedy, and a rich-teen-angst soap, but using myself as an example there are at least a few of us! I think no one is brave enough to post anything on Tuesdays against the American Idol juggernaut.

So now, it would appear the new plan is watch House live, TiVo Chuck, and Gossip Girl will have to be watched online the next day. Sheesh.

The good news is all the other nights are looking good. Thursday has a lot going on, but since I dropped Grey's Anatomy last year and LOST moved back to Wednesdays, nothing overlaps. ER is still getting TiVo'd but... well, I haven't watched one of those episodes since about October. Hopefully when Amy Poehler's as-yet-untitled new NBC show debuts later this spring it'll fit nicely in there somewhere.

Of course we're most excited about the return of our one true love, LOST. Back on Wednesdays and back in our lives after eight long months. Only two more weeks left to wait!

Which leaves us with the following TV viewing line-up in the James household for Spring 2009... green will get the immediate watch, while red indicates the shows that will be relegated to TiVo-land and get watched when we have time.

Monday
7pm - Chuck, Gossip Girl, House

Tuesday
8pm - Fringe

Wednesday
8pm - LOST

Thursday
7pm - Ugly Betty
8pm - The Office
8:30pm - 30 Rock

Friday
9pm - Psych

Aaaand it's official. We watch too much TV.
